Tom Hopper is a British actor best known for his roles as Luther Hargreeves (AKA Space Boy) in The Umbrella Academy, Billy Bones in the drama series Black Sails, Sir Percival in the BBC series Merlin, and Dickon Tarly in the highly acclaimed HBO series Game of Thrones.
Acting from a young age, Hopper had been heavily involved with theatre at Rose Bruford College, gaining roles in productions such as The Tempest, The Way of the World, and Festen. In 2006, he was voted Expert Choice at the Rose Bruford Acting Showcase, a promising start to a successful career.
Since graduating, he has appeared in a number of different film and television series that are recognized globally. Introduced in the third series, Hopper portrayed Sir Percival in the British fantasy drama Merlin. As the shows popularity grew, he became one of the main cast members, returning for the fourth and fifth series. He also guest starred in Matt Smith's first episode of Doctor Who.
In November 2012, Hopper was amongst the first to be announced for the Starz series Black Sails, which served as a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. Nominated for a number of awards, the pirate drama ran for four seasons, before concluding in early 2017.
Replacing Freddie Stroma in the role, Hopper joined the cast as Dickon Tarly in the seventh season of the HBO series Game of Thrones. Though only a brief appearance, Hopper secured himself one of the most graphic death scenes in the series. 2019 saw Hopper portraying William Hadrell in Terminator: Dark Fate.
Heavily involved in the stage and screen, Tom Hopper has provided his image to causes supporting awareness for a number of cancers posing a threat to men around the world.
Recently, Hopper can be seen portraying the character of Luther Hargreeves (AKA Space Boy) in the hugely popular 2019 Netflix series The Umbrella Academy, an adaptation of the Dark Horse Comics series written by Gerard Way. He joins an incredible cast also including Ellen Page, Robert Sheehan and Emmy Raver-Lampman.
